What a VPN encrypts, and what it does not
NordVPN's documentation describes a VPN as encrypting internet traffic and routing it through a remote server. On a hotel or cafe network, that means the path from your device to the VPN server is the protected hop. It does not create the hotel connection, complete the captive portal, or add bandwidth the venue lacks. [1][2]

What a travel router creates, and why the portal still comes first
A travel router creates a portable personal LAN: your devices join the router, and the router joins the hotel network. That is useful when several devices need one login, a consistent local address, or a documented repeater path. It is not a VPN. It does not, by itself, encrypt the path to the public internet. Hotel Wi-Fi will not get faster because of a new router.

A lower displayed monthly figure on a multi-year intro is still a larger invoice due now. Annual or 27-month amounts must fit the cash you can pay upfront. This publication has not subscribed to, installed, or measured NordVPN.
Stop buying when the current path already works
If the hotel portal already works on the device you will use, and you do not need a private tunnel or a personal LAN, keep your current setup. If you already run a VPN that covers that device, adding NordVPN does not create a new job. If you need a local LAN, use the travel-router checklist rather than stretching a VPN subscription to cover hardware work.

Will a VPN make hotel Wi-Fi faster?
