Start with a connection drawing

The worked scenario is hypothetical: a traveler wants permitted hotel Ethernet as the uplink and one wired laptop as the client. Draw venue socket to router WAN, router LAN to laptop, and charger to router power input. This simple drawing exposes the need for two network cables and a separate power path before any purchase.

This guide uses GL.iNet documentation. We have not tested Beryl AX, chargers, adapters, or a hotel network. The worksheet is a compatibility planning record, not a tested packing list or a recommendation that this model fits every traveler.

What the Beryl AX specification establishes

The manufacturer lists these ports and power requirements on the Beryl AX product page. Port ratings are not measured hotel internet speeds. A WAN socket and a LAN socket also do not provide two wired client sockets while the WAN is occupied by this uplink. If your plan changes, redraw the port allocation.

Resolve accessories before calling the kit ready

For each cable or adapter, record the exact part identifier and the evidence used to select it. If the laptop has no Ethernet port, add a laptop-compatible adapter as an unresolved requirement; do not assume that any USB-C device carries the needed data or supplies the required power. Check the laptop and adapter manufacturers before marking the row compatible.

GL.iNet separately documents adding another wired WAN using an Ethernet-to-USB-A adapter and the appropriate driver. That is an additional configuration, not evidence that all adapters work. Do not add that complexity to the base scenario unless a second uplink is actually required.

A worked decision with an honest stopping point

In the fictional worksheet, the router port allocation matches the documented hardware. The traveler has not confirmed the hotel Ethernet service, charger output, second network cable, or laptop adapter. The result is therefore not ready, even though the router itself has the two needed Ethernet roles. The next action is to resolve those specific fields, not to order a faster router.

After assembling an owned kit, test link detection and internet access separately on an authorized network. Record model, firmware, cable and adapter identities, and actual observations. A home test can verify that combination at home; it does not guarantee hotel login compatibility or upstream capacity. Follow venue and employer requirements.

Use a no-purchase fallback

If a requirement cannot be confirmed, keep a simpler permitted connection available, such as using the laptop directly with the venue network. Do not treat an unverified adapter as the only recovery path. For a captive-portal problem, use the separate hotel-login checklist; this worksheet addresses the physical connection and power plan.
